Dry ice blasting is also known as cryogenic cleaning or CO₂ blasting. Solid carbon dioxide particles are accelerated with compressed air and directed at the surface to be cleaned.

It may look similar to sandblasting from a distance, but the blasting media behaves very differently: dry ice sublimates after impact instead of remaining on the surface as abrasive grit.

The process projects dry ice pellets with compressed air. Impact, thermal effects and CO₂ sublimation help loosen many types of deposits without adding water to the cleaning process.
Pressure, air flow and nozzle selection must be adjusted to the surface. A prior assessment and, where appropriate, a test area are used to confirm the method before full cleaning.
